LED Lighting Revolution

LED bulbs use 75-85% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last 25,000-50,000 hours versus 1,000 hours for incandescent. A 9W LED produces the same 800 lumens as a 60W incandescent. If every US household replaced just one 60W incandescent with an LED, it would save enough energy to power 3 million homes for a year. The price of LEDs has dropped 97% since 2008, from $70 per bulb to under $2. Over a 25,000-hour lifespan, one LED bulb saves approximately $150 in electricity versus incandescent at $0.13/kWh. LEDs also produce 90% less heat, reducing air conditioning costs in warm climates. The global LED market is growing 12% annually, and LEDs now represent over 50% of all lighting sales. By 2030, LED adoption could save 1,400 TWh of electricity globally — equivalent to the entire output of 500 medium-sized power plants.
