Estimate total daily insulin, basal/bolus split, and correction factor.
Total daily dose (TDD) is estimated as weight × dose factor (typically 0.3–0.7 U/kg/day). The 50/50 rule splits TDD equally between basal and bolus. The correction factor uses the 1800 rule (1800 ÷ TDD) for rapid-acting insulin. The carb ratio uses the 500 rule (500 ÷ TDD). These are starting estimates and require titration.
