Karvonen Method

THR = ((MHR − RHR) × %Intensity) + RHR. The Karvonen formula accounts for resting heart rate, making it more personalized than simple percentage-of-max methods. Heart rate reserve (HRR) = MHR − RHR. This method is preferred for exercise prescription as it better reflects actual cardiovascular stress.
