Total lung capacity (TLC) is the maximum volume of air the lungs can hold. It includes tidal volume, inspiratory reserve, expiratory reserve, and residual volume. Prediction equations use height and age as primary determinants. TLC declines slightly with age and is larger in males. Actual values are measured via body plethysmography.
