Holliday-Segar (4-2-1) method for IV fluid maintenance.
The 4-2-1 rule: 4 mL/kg/hr for the first 10 kg, 2 mL/kg/hr for the next 10 kg, and 1 mL/kg/hr for each additional kg. Daily: 100 mL/kg for first 10 kg, 50 mL/kg for next 10, 20 mL/kg thereafter. This estimates water requirements for insensible losses and urine production in hospitalized children.
