WHO: < 10% of calories from free/added sugars, ideally < 5%. For 2000 kcal: max 50g (12 tsp), ideal 25g (6 tsp). 1 tsp = 4g sugar. A can of soda has ~39g (10 tsp). Excess sugar increases risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and dental caries.
